Write in GitHub Flavored Markdown, pick a template, and publish. You can check out the published branch with:

$ cd your_repo_root/repo_name
$ git fetch origin
$ git checkout gh-pages

If you're using the GitHub for Mac, simply sync your repository and you'll see the new branch.

The gh-pages branch in your repository is where you can post HTML content, with Jekyll supplements, for site-wide headers and footers without having to copy them across every page, intelligent blog support and other template features like @mention for links to profiles like @johan, the owner of this page.
